COMMISSION OF INQUIRY FOR CAMBODIA

A FULL RANGE OF DEMOCRACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES ARE BEING INVESTIGATED AND ACCOUNTABILITY WILL BE PURSUED

They have asked to have their cases properly investigated by the government and the international community.

But their calls for help and attention, and their demands for justice and accountability, were largely ignored.

Finally, the Khmer people have the ability to organize and carry out their own Commission of Inquiry that the international community has failed to provide.

Now, the victims and their representatives have a chance to tell their stories that they have been wanting to voice for so long and to demand justice and accountability.

This fourth session precedes the July 2023 national election and will be the most significant formal hearing.

The July election should give the people an opportunity to vote for their national leadership for this decade. In recent months the United Nations made clear in a series of unusually frank and hard-hitting reports and statements that the 2023 elections cannot be taken seriously or treated as legitimate, free and fair. In order for the results of the elections to be accepted and recognized as valid and legitimate by the international community, the United Nations’ recommended 20-point “Action Plan” reform measures need to be implemented before the July vote.
