Commissioner Introduction Statement for the Launch Announcement Session of the Commission of Inquiry for Cambodia, 23 October 2021

In carrying out its work, the Commission of Inquiry is honored to have the assistance and involvement of some of the leading experts in the human rights and democracy support fields. Morton Sklar, founding Executive Director Emeritus of Human Rights USA, and a former International Court Judge, and member of the United Nations’ ILO Commission of Inquiry for Burma, have been providing ongoing support and assistance.

On July 18, 2021, Brad Adams, Asia Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, led an information sharing and strategic planning session with Khmer community leaders that provided the inspiration for the creation of the Commission. Leading the effort, and serving as Commissioners, will be some of the most respected, experienced, and effective international human rights and democracy authorities. Two of the Commissioners are with us today.

Louisa Coan Greve served for many years as Vice President for Programs and East Asia Director at the National Endowment for Democracy, and also served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International USA. She presently works with the Uyghur Human Rights Project as Director of Global Advocacy.

Paul Hoffman served for decades on the leadership team of Amnesty International at both the international and Amnesty USA levels, including Chair of the Board of Directors of Amnesty USA. He also was lead attorney in many of the most important and groundbreaking human rights cases that came before United States’ courts, and international tribunals, in recent years.
